The Story Behind The Cars
These iconic BMWs are being offered from a private collection. The owner acquired them not as investments, but as expressions of taste and performance. Both cars benefitted from refined bespoke, frames off renovations and upgrades. These cars, two different sides of what BMW got exactly right in the analog era, are nonetheless timeless.
The 1972 BMW 3.5 CS represents the grand touring vision: long, elegant proportions, a presence that commands attention, before the engine even turns over. It is the kind of machine that reminds you why Karmann Coachbuilders were famous. The owner acquired the car to fulfill his Dad's unrealized dream to own an E9. A total custom restoration with a rust-free SoCal car, began the journey. The Agave E9 was featured and photographed in the Roundel and Bimmer Magazines. The Agave E9 has been awarded Best in Class at The LimeRock Concours Gathering of the Marques. The E9 has also been privileged to participate in the Targa California Rally and Legends of The Autobahn in Monterey.
The 1989 E30 M3 is the other side of that heritage: raw, purposeful, motorsport-bred. The original E30 M3 was built, from 1986 to 1991, as a homologation car for touring competition. A total of approximately 17,184 to 17,970 units were produced worldwide. The E30 M3 featured the high-revving, and coveted, 2.3-liter S14 inline-four engine. Characterized by aggressive box-flared fenders, and a lightweight chassis, it became the model every generation of BMW driver references. During the owners stewardship, the M3 has been recognized and awarded with a People Choice Award at SigFest and M Class-First Place at Great Marques Concours d"Elegance.
Why selling now?
"I consider myself, modestly, as a custodian of BMW classic car dreams. The E9 and M3 restorations, were my visions come true. These models are still, the ambitions of informed classic BMW owners. I've enjoyed the cars and the timeless relationships immensely. It is now time to pass that privilege, the joy and responsibility, to someone who's been looking for the stature of owning these cars.

The E9 coupe body is widely considered one of the finest proportioned cars BMW ever produced , a fact known among, dare I say, informed BMW enthusiasts. This particular example pairs the timeless silhouette with a 3.5-litre inline-six , the 635 M30B35, giving it a character that's both refined and engaging to drive. The upgraded 38-38 Carbs provide mid range pull and smooth cruising.
It is well known that this is not a car you buy, for simple transportation. Ownership is a statement that reflects personal comportment and bespoke taste. You buy it because you understand that certain machines are irreplaceable. E9 stewardship reflects a carrying on, of a one of a kind vintage legacy.
The 1972 BMW 3.5 CS — circumstance by situation:
It's been purposefully driven and well stored:
Less than 15K miles from restoration, stored and garaged in climate controlled environment and driven selectively over 20 years of private ownership. It has been in the company of select classics, up and down the East Coast. And it has travelled to the West Coast. Note the included videos. The 3.5 engine, bodywork, paint & interior, are strong points. Agave, the exterior color, is stunning. The English Saddle Brown interior is a perfefct contrast. The car has been professionally attended to by respected professionals, and there has been no deferred maintenance.
It has been restored:
"This car underwent a full frames off restoration in 2004 with periodic cosmetic touch ups. Front and rear spoilers were added. Driver and passenger mirrors were moved forward. Carbs were upgraded. Ignition was upgraded. It has stored in a dust free environment. Documentation for the major work is available for serious buyers."
Total mileage is unknown. The 3.5 CS is a total rebuild, as is not numbers matching. (67K are shown on odometer) The condition is actual story:
"[X] miles, honestly accumulated over [X] years of careful private use. What matters here is not the number — it's what was done when it was needed. Full service history available. The car presents and drives significantly better than the odometer suggests. Noted restorers will attest that, this E9 could not be built for for the asking price.

The E30 M3 was not designed to be comfortable or quiet. It was designed to win races — and then homologated into a road car that remains, decades later, the reference point for what a small, driver-focused BMW should feel like.
The S14 four-cylinder is an engine that rewards the driver who actually uses it. The car is most happy in 4th & 5th gear. The Cinnamon Brown interior, a stunning custom color, creates a unique combination with DiamondSchwartz. The net result is a Concours Level car, with an identity that is difficult to replicate.
For the 1989 BMW E30 M3 — templates by situation:
IIt's not numbers matching, but is near stock:
S14 engine, original DiamondSchwartz colour. Custom Cinnamon Brown interior combination. This E30 M3 was hand built with the previous owner, by a pre-eminent and noted restorer. Owned privately for 11 years, garaged in NYC and Poughkeepsie. Never tracked or abused. This E30 M3 is in Concours level condition, and needs virtually nothing. Service records available upon in-person inspection and test drive. This is the kind of E30 M3 that's becoming genuinely difficult to find, considering the rarity of parts."
It has "modest" modifications:
Upgraded Stromung exhaust. Powder coated valve cover in Motorsport Colors. Rear view camera. German Specialities Sub box and Alpine head unit. The S14 runs strong / exactly as it should— cold start video available. Otherwise largely stock. E30 M3 buyers know what they're looking at and this one rewards the inspection."
16 inch BBS rims/tires available to buyer for separate purchase.
If condition and legacy is the headline:
"The informed buyer will know what they see,
as a Concours Level, near stock e30 M3 is sight to behold"
